Histamine allergy? Why it occurs and how to treat it naturally

Histamine is an imidazole amine that our body produces endogenously and has the function of modulating the immune response to the attack of external pathogens by recruiting antibodies through chemotaxis, promoting vasodilation.

In food allergies and intolerances , histamine is released, causing symptoms such as:

  • Urticaria
  • Hives on the skin
  • Distemper
  • Migraines

  • It also has functions as a neurotransmitter, since it stimulates nerve functions and this can explain the sedative effect of traditional antihistamines, which by inhibiting histamine receptors produce drowsiness.

Histamine isn't bad; what's bad is excess. And why does that happen?

This can occur for two reasons:

    1. To an excess of histamine due to high consumption of products that contain it .
    2. A deficiency of the enzymes that degrade it ( DAO and MAO )

These two causes can occur separately or together, and usually the combination of the two is what causes allergic outbreaks to histamine.

For point 1, the solution is to reduce your intake of foods containing histamine, or at least not consume too many of them at once. Generally speaking, cured products like cheese, sausages, canned goods, chocolate, and wine are high in histamine, so try to eat fresh products and avoid processed ones.

Point two is more complicated; the deficiency of enzymes that promote the degradation of histamine can be reduced by various causes.

    • The consumption of medications or alcohol .
    • A deficiency in certain micronutrients such as zinc or B vitamins.
    • An intestinal dysbiosis .

So, consuming certain micronutrients will facilitate the stimulation of DAO and MAO, and in turn, having a healthy intestinal flora is also very important for this process .

Are there any foods and/or compounds with antihistamine properties?

    1. Beta-glucans : polysaccharide compounds found in foods such as mushrooms , certain cereals , and algae . The journal Food Science & Nutrition observed that supplementation with beta-glucans reduced allergy symptoms by 28% and their severity by 52%.
    2. Bromelain : A study published in 2013 showed that this enzyme present in pineapple could reduce sensitization to allergic processes involving the airways thanks to its anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory action
    3. Quercetin : This compound is found in many plant-based foods, but is particularly abundant in broccoli, apples, grapes, and tea. It has been shown to reduce histamine release and help alleviate allergy symptoms.
    4. Vitamin C : Many studies have evaluated the relationship between vitamin C and histamine metabolism. This vitamin has a unique ability to break down this substance.

Of course, all these natural ingredients are included in our CNF Aller ! You can check its formulation on the product sheet .

Our natural antihistamine , SUPER CNF ALLER , contains in its formula a series of active components that increase the action of the DAO and MAO enzymes, and reduce inflammation by regulating the immune response, promoting an improvement of symptoms without producing the side effects of traditional antihistamines such as drowsiness, tiredness and fatigue.

On the other hand, to take care of the intestinal flora the recommended supplement is Lactospore (symbiotic formula of probiotics + natural probiotics) since it will prevent inflammation of our digestive system which will promote a favorable action of the DAO.
